I have noticed a few blogs around lately that have people posting like one or two liners about nothing of interest just to say they have a blog. I am a firm believer that you should try to offer something of use or at least have a decently written piece of work for each post. Something that can spark discussion rather than just a line or two about how your girlfriend looks nice.

I am not looking for blogs to be dry or boring like a tech manual or anything, but I think even something like a story or some advice would work. Instead of a one liner like "I like my iPod it looks really cool" have a bit of a conversation about why iPods look the way they do or some tips and tricks to "trick out" your iPod.

I am just a bit tired of seeing a blog that might be interesting only to find they have one line entries that may or may not even be related to their blogs overall topic or goal.

Is this some form of purism and do you believe that blogs should contain empty random things that are probably meaningless to 99.9% of the general public?

I must say that I do prefer having something worth reading if I am going to go to a blog. I also am looking for content that has somethign to do with the overall purpose of the blog (after all that is the reason I visit said blog). If a person is just going to post random things to say that they have a blog they might as well kiss any and all readers goodbye, because people don't want to read about how your lunch was (unless you have a food rating blog or something of that sort).

My own personal blog is fairly random in its wonderings and musings but I try not to post anything which I haven't at least put some effort into. One line doesn't make a blog.

I don't think every blog out there has to have a particular purpose, but they do have to have some substance, if your gonna do it you may as well makes sure that each individual post has a point even if the rest of the blog doesn't have a particular content focus.

This all reminds me that I have yet again lapsed in my duties as far as making regular posts on my blog is concerned... better sit down and do some 'proper' writing this evening! (good thing traffic to the damn thing isn't high or regular!)
