Google
announced today that they will be releasing "Chrome", their very own open-source web browser to the world tomorrow (Sept 2) sometime during the day.
You'll be able to get the browser here:
http://www.google.com/chromeThey also released a comic that hints at some of the features:
http://books.google.com/books?id=8UsqHohww...tcover#PPA10,M1So here are some of the key features:
- Multi-
process browsing. Each tab has it's own process and memory management.
- JavaScript Virtual Machine - Better garbage collection, faster rendering, more stable!!!!
- Each version tested on millions of web pages using google's existing crawling technology
- Incognito Window - A mode that makes that window log NOTHING on your computer. Sweet (porn mode in IE8?!)
- Tabs that can drag between windows and maintain state.
- The "Chrome" name draws from the idea of web apps running as apps, without all the junk in the browser
- Gears. Gears. Gears. Developers. Developers. Developers.
Alright, that's what I gathered from the comic. Check it out and share your insights and observations. And get ready to download what may be the "FireFox Killer"... Chrome!
