I was thinking of making a bot type program that would follow(coded) instructions from the user, but I'm not sure how bots work . I've been looking it up on Google and it's harder than I would of thought. I know that they perform automated tasks, but that's about it... no details mellow.gif . So can anyone help me in finding out in more detail about how bots work?

You don't sound like you have a very good idea of what you want to do. smile.gif

There's a game (I forget what it's called) and it's a game for programmers. You get a robot and put it in an arena with other players. Once you get the robot, you program it what to do in the arena (e.g fire, rotate 90 degrees, go forward until it hits a wall and repeat) and I want to make a type of program that replecate the fact that you can tell it what to do, but don't need to program the rest.

Robocode not Rebocode. smile.gif

It's pretty fun, and it's crossplatform.

There are actually online competitions to make the best bot, some of them are crazy.

What do you need help with?

You provided a link to an open source version of what you are trying to do, so you already have access to the code. Now you just need to understand what it is doing.

All the answers you need are in the link YOU provided.

Robocode comes with a lot of demo bots that you can look at if you want to know how to do things.

They also have API docs to look at.

does this qualify as traditional bot programming? This sounds too specific but i don't really know what I'm talking about tongue.gif By the way, I think I've heard i've that game, is it limited to coding the behaviour in java?

It's a learning tool.

What would you define as traditional bot programming?

It doesn't matter anymore, I'll look into it later when I've finished a few bench marks on nText

for me a traditional bot program would be defined as an autonomous construct thingy that can do a number of tasks without human intervention.....but i spose that thats exactly what these ones do, just for a game. So like i said , don't mind me I don't really knw what I'm talking about tongue.gif
