.Net user account getting locked out

.Net user account getting locked out, Security

New D.I.C Head Joined: 1 May, 2007 Posts: 22 My Contributions	The user that is specified in the machine.config file in .Net used for accessing network resources etc. is getting locked out. This has happened twice now, was wondering if anyone knew any denial of service exploits or security problems or application issues that could cause this to happen? When the account gets locked out, the website just keeps throwing these exceptions: System.IO.IOException: The referenced account is currently locked out and may not be logged on to. Any ideas as to what could cause this and what I can do about it? Thanks.

using DIC.Core; Joined: 26 Jul, 2007 Posts: 8,933 Thanked 118 times Dream Kudos: 8525 Expert In: VB, VB.Net, C#, SQL, ASP, ASP.Net, Web Development, HTML, CSS, Win32 API, Javascript, mySQL, J#, Boo.Net My Contributions	That's because the ASPNET account doesnt have default permissions to access network resources. You can give it the permissions, but that's a serious security risk. You can do this in a more safe manner using Impersonation, also Rick Strahl has a pretty good article on this very issue. Hope that helps
