My next idea.

Anyone is welcome to join in with the development, I'm looking for a bit of a team on this one.

No rush to get it completed, though I wouldn't think it would take too long to complete.

Features to include:
  • Syntax highlighting, obviously~ already sorted for the most part (a few bugs that are easily fixable)
  • Line numbering
  • Super-intelligent intellisense, which figures out patterns in code to work for any language
  • Ultra customisation ~ this project is going to be one extreme IDE, suited to all programmers
  • Support for plugins ~ so programmers can make their own scripts/extensions for the IDE
  • A design view, like in Visual Studio, for .NET ~ shouldn't be too difficult actually, I've sussed the main part of it
  • Highlighting of matching brackets
  • Tabbed browsing

Got your mouth watering? Join in!

Current team
Got any feature suggestions? Let me know and I'll add them to the list smile.gif

Consider yourself added! smile.gif

I'm gonna set up a SourceForge for it soon, as soon as we come up with a name... any ideas? I suck at names.

All I can think of is Code Ninja, which I think Martyr2 would approve of wink2.gif

By the way, I personally will be using #Develop, which is a free tool.

If you want to be using the same IDE as me (though it works with Visual Studio projects, so it's not too important) you can download it here

Here are a few ideas I have:
  • Highlighting around curly braces of the same blocks of code, to know which braces go together
  • Tabbed file-opening
  • Maybe some simple error checking (missing semicolons, bad syntax of statements like if-else, and other things that most languages have)

If you don't mind having a very novice C# programmer aboard, I'd like to join. I have zip experience working with anyone on a programming project other than by myself, and it'll also help me to learn C# as well.

The error checking can actually be done through the compiler. It's just a matter of pulling the console output from the command line. (I'll figure out a way)

And you're added. smile.gif

We need a name. Then, I'll set up a SourceForge project and add you all as Admins.

Suggestions?

Yeah, sorry. Huge pet peve that goes back a long way. Sorry.

I like the idea of the bracket & paren checking within the IDE. I think that could be done easily. Hell, the editor here checks for forum tags so.... why the eff not?

haha, no problem. It actually annoys me, it's just a habit. laugh.gif

I'd also like to add stuff like wildcard searches, Regex searches, etc~
Really detailed stuff. This is going to be for all programmers.

smile.gif

BUT WE NEED A NAME! urgh, I hate naming stuff. I mean, "The Snippet Manager"? How original... sleep.gif

<this is going forward a little, I'm actually trying to plan stuff out for once>
Is everyone familiar with the SVN system? SourceForge accounts? etc...

I can throw together a basic mock in the next couple of days, with the ability to add compiler paths, linker paths, etc.

Icon designers? I think omo might be up for it, but I'll have to speak with him. (He does graphics)
I'll talk to him.

DICIDE - (DIC and IDE)

Dixtreme - (From DIC and 'extreme' "this project is going to be one extreme IDE")

Does it have to involve DIC? It's not really a DIC project, it's just a few members from DIC sleep.gif

hmmm... Maybe this could be more than an IDE. What with all the plugins, and all.

*Thinking*

Let's look beyond the horizons of it just being an IDE. An all-in-one application, developed for programmers.

What could we add?
-I could utilise something like my snippet manager for it.
-Perhaps quick links, to jump straight to certain sites: cplusplus.com, etc
-A built-in (basic) web browser, to load stuff like MSDN and said sites?

None of this will clutter the IDE itself. It could open in new windows/tabs.

I dunno. I'm just jotting down thoughts where they won't be lost at the minute.

EDIT:
Said web browser could be used for viewing web development stuff, HTML,CSS,PHP without having to fart about with your default browser.

ANOTHER EDIT:
Looking at "DICIDE" makes me think of CIDER
Coder's Integrated Development Environment R?

Disclaimer: Please refrain from laughing at me for crap ideas. I'm tired, and will most likely come back to this tomorrow and think "WTF was I thinking?"

Well, the only non-DIC thing I could think of was 'Gabomnomoon' biggrin.gif

The web browser part will be easy, thanks to the WebBrowser tool that can be used in C#.

Hmm... CIDER - Coder's Integrated Development Environment (and) Resources?
