Basicly what i am trying to do is a mix between hardware and software. Since Windows Vista is such a hog and Microsoft is a corp with a bunch of a** holes that find ways for customers to spend the more than they can afford for products that they need, I want to create and EEPROM that the OS can boot from instead of having it store itself into the RAM, and store only Varibles in the RAM.

known plus sides
1) Quicker boot.
2) Saves space on HDD
3) Quicker computer.

What we would need to do.
Reconfigure BCD to boot from EEPROM.
Program EEPROM with desired OS.
Program EEPROM to store and access all vars from RAM.

Compensation

Equal profit if we can sell it biggrin.gif

wouldn't this take custom hardware, or use of hardware? If so, convincing people to use it is going to be troublesome.

Vista runs like a dream on 2GB+

Also, since you need to read variables from RAM, the increase in performance wouldn't be all that extraordinary.

It will but it will be much better on saving space on the hard drive, Virus's wouldnt be able to destroy the OS as easily (Specailize the Electronic signal) and all of the OS's executables wont have to be stored into the RAM. but as far as the Hardware goes, its just a standard EEPROM just a different Signal. The only reason that i want it to be an EEPROM is so that people arnt stuck with just one operating system. They could boot from a disc and flash it, kindof like flashing the BIOS

Maby not exraordinary, but better.

[edit] I am going to call Atmel to see if they can make a EEPROM big enough and get an estiment on how much it will cost

How do you plan to update the OS then?

However you update is going to be an exploit point in this implementation, there is no such thing as an OS that is immune to a virus unless it cannot be updated, like a live CD.

Hard drive space wouldn't convince me either, i just bought a 500GB drive for $80.

The flashing idea I do like, if you can work out the updates, this would be a great selling point. Just like a network virtual OS without the network requirement.

*By the way, I'm not trying to minimize the idea, just making you back it up, it may even get you a partner faster.

I didnt think of the update....i guess i could have a seperate, smaller ROM that could reprogram the Primary with the updates from the hard drive outside of the OS. If a cd was required then it would be hard to do for the OS Manufacturers. other then that, i really dont know how....

This came to mind because i am running on a laptop and its a bi*** to get an interior hard drive for it.
