Semester Long Programming Assignment, any links?

Does anyone happen to have any links or ideas for some programming assignments that could be done as a semester long project in an intro to java class?

I'm curious cause i'm a student and I'm looking to work on a longer project instead of short projects like those that are in class.

Well below is one thread I listed some project ideas on. They are C++ but you could implement them in Java (they were only ideas afterall).

I also found that if you take the class assignments and add more functionality onto them than asked for in the class, you can learn a lot too. For instance I had made the in class chess game, but then also added on a chat program to go with it so that you can chat with your opponent and taunt them over the internet. The chat part was extra and not required by the class.
