Hi, for a project, i am wanting to create a midi editor in C#, i know that C# will handle midi functions but since i've not used them before, i thought maybe people could explain a bit on how hard this would be to do.

Basically i have seen this example in C#:

h**p://www.codeproject.com/KB/audio-video/MIDIToolkit.aspx

No other examples have been found so far, so if you know any other examples or have any advice then let me know.

The midi editor is going to be a simple midi editor to begin with, you insert a midi file and then it will play. Later on in my development i hope to include a score displaying the music notes, showing the different instruments within the midi file, displaying a piano of what note is currently playing and also allowing keyboard input via a usb port.

This is a little tricky i agree, but the midi editors i have seen so far, none of them support keyboard input very well, by this i mean you either have to move to the next part on the score manually, it doesn't register the notes you press in quick enough time, or it trys playing all notes at the same time instead of moving onto the next note on the score. If i could correct this, i think my project would be unique in that way.

So i am after some input from you guy's to let me know if you think it will be phesable to do, i will need to know the functions in which i shall need to look into to capture input, also any examples on basic midi editors created in C#, other than the one in which i have posted in the link above.

I did some research on this, i think i can probably get a midi file to play but never found much past that point. (apart from the posted example obviously).

Thanks

Hi,

I have seen these links, i have contacted the guy somebody mentioned in 1 of the links, the other link is exactly the which i posted in my first post.

It seems that not many people on the internet have had experiences with midi input within a computer.

Can anybody else shed some light on this? I will need all the info i can get.

Thanks
