You could name your labels using any valid variable name.  The label has a colon after it to tell the compiler that it is a label.  Colons have several meanings in C/C++ and depending on context, the compiler will try to do what it knows to do ... Otherwise ... it reports an error condition.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The label name I used was TESTING: It has a colon &amp;#39;:&amp;#39; at the end, to let the compiler know that it is a &amp;#39;label&amp;#39;, (actually an address in memory, that now goes by that &amp;#39;handle&amp;#39;.)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The &amp;#39;goto TESTING;&amp;#39; here is an unconditional jump, i.e. it ALWAYS jumps to the label specified.  This is a neat trick for debugging or testing code to jump over ... or back ... to some code ... and carry on from there.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&amp;#39;goto&amp;#39; is what we old programmers used to have to use to build all our structures.  It is still MUCH used in assembly language where it is a jmp.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The nice structures you see like ... &amp;#39;while&amp;#39; or &amp;#39;for&amp;#39; are all made up of many jumps behind the scenes.  High Level languages like C or C++ do a lot of work for you and the structures there are the way to go ... to write code that is much more readable ... and so much easier to get the logic right and to maintain.  Some might say that you should never use a goto ... But that is a little extreme ...and may betray a lack of understanding of what is actually going on inside the CPU.  Instead of such an extreme ... goto is seldom used except in debugging or testing. That is, CS is the academic branch of computing that takes care of the theoretical aspects, whereas SE is one of the practical branches that is responsible for actually building things.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;As for which is preferable, that depends on what you want to learn.  If you&amp;#39;re interested in developing software, that&amp;#39;s what SE is all about.  CS is applicable to software development, but is not primarily concerned with it.             <title>When are Switch statements appropriate in C and C++</title>
            <description>So i have a question...&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;i was searching around the forum and after looking at some advice people were giving started to wonder &amp;quot;When is a switch statement appropriate to use&amp;quot;(as opposed to a loop with a if statement to check for bad user input).&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;the only case i can think of is a somewhat complicated menu or such in which the choices can not be easily organized into a array or some other data type.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;let me know what you guys think.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;-INTERROBANG&amp;#33;?</description>
